What do we get for our money?

Every driver gets a minimum of 6 x 25 lap qualifying races, and then depending on the size of the category you are in the top drivers will go straight through to the 100 lap grand final or 35 laps knock out finals. 3 drivers from each knock out final advance to the next round. (You could race a maximum of 285 laps over the weekend if you race all the qualifying heats, then the knock out races and advance to the grand final). You are guaranteed a minimum of 185 laps racing throughout the event.

How will the race format work?

As stated above, each driver gets 6 x 25 lap qualifying heats/races to collect championship points, at the end of your 6 races the top points scorers advance directly to the grand final are knock out rounds. From there in the knockout races, the top 3 drivers advance to the next round. In the end, the top 12 drivers race off in 1 x 100 laps grand final for the IORK New Zealand Rental Kart Championship!

How will that work over the weekend?

  • Friday each driver will complete 3-4 qualifying heats each a mixture of day and night races.
  • Saturday from 9 am the last qualifying races will be run.
  • Saturday night from 5:30 pm all of the knockout races (A & B mains if required) will be run.
  • Sunday from 9 am the grand finals will kick-off.

Yes, the days leading up to the event will be set up for practice, and an IORK code will be set up to apply a discount.

How late will the practice go on Thursday the 19th?

On Thursday the 19th of August the practice will run until 7:00 pm so anyone flying in can hopefully attend.

How do the pit stops work?

In each race/heat each driver must complete the same amount of compulsory timed strategic pit stops. (E.g. 2 pit stops per driver in each qualifying race). These can be taken at any time during the race and must be completed before the race ends. Only two drivers can pit at one time during the qualifying races if you pit in a lane where a driver is already pitting you must wait until they have completed their stop before starting yours.

Why are the pit stops strategic?

Often when you have a very even form of Motorsport like Karting, with all drivers being similar weight and ability, and the karts are all identical. Passing can be challenging and even if you are the faster driver you could struggle to pass some drivers, so with our strategic timed pit stops you can use them in these cases and take one of your timed compulsory stops this will put you on the opposite side of the track when you re-enter and then if you are doing faster lap times you should end up in front of that person once they have done their stop.

What are the categories?

The categories for the 2021 IORK championships are, under 74.9 kgs, 75 kgs to 89.9 kgs, 90 kgs and over, and ladies open.
