Welcome to JKL – Junior Karting League, Nelson’s premier kart racing league for children aged 7 to 15. Whether your child is new to karting or already has a taste for speed, JKL is the ultimate way to build confidence, learn control, and enjoy real racing excitement in a fun, structured, and safe environment.
Event Dates & League Format
Racing Action Begins Wednesday 26th June 2025
• First Round: Wednesday 26th June 2025 at 4:00 PM
• Following Rounds: Held once a month during school terms
• Format: Practice + 2 x 16-lap heats
• Duration: Approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours per event
• Location: Pro Karts, Tahunanui Beach, Nelson
Age Divisions for Fair Racing
Participants are grouped into three divisions based on age and skill:
• Division 1: Ages 7–9 – Fun Karts (Beginner-Friendly)
• Division 2: Ages 9–11 – Fun Karts (Beginner-Friendly)
• Division 3: Ages 12–15 – Pro Karts (Speed-limited for safety)

• Standard Fee: $39 per round
• Introductory Offer: $35 for Rounds 1 & 2!

Q: What age does my child need to be to join?
A: Kids aged 7 to 15 are eligible and will be grouped with similar-aged racers.
Q: Does my child need prior experience?
A: Not at all! Our league is beginner-friendly and includes a full safety briefing.
Q: Can we skip some rounds?
A: Yes – race one or race all. Every round is optional.
Q: What gear do we need to bring?
A: Just closed shoes. We supply helmets and all required safety equipment.
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: We race in most weather unless conditions are unsafe. Wet-weather racing builds great skills!
Q: Can we watch the races?
A: Absolutely! Parents and friends are welcome – great viewing areas available.
Q: How are points awarded?
A: Each heat earns points. The more you race, the better your chance at the season trophy.
Q: How long does each round take?
A: Each round runs for about 60 minutes to 75 minutes.
