Top Karting Tips to Improve Your Lap Times BOOK THE FUN KARTS TODAY BOOK THE PRO KARTS TODAY Always brake in a straight line before entering a corner. Go-karts have rear brakes only, which means if you brake while turning, the kart can easily spin out. Always slow down before the turn while your wheels are straight to maintain control. Brake early, accelerate early – “In slow, out fast.” Approach corners with gentle braking and smooth acceleration. Entering a corner too fast will cause you to slide or drift, which will slow you down significantly. Remember: drifting may look cool, but it’s not the fastest way around the track. Correct a slide with control. If your kart begins to slide, ease off the throttle, apply opposite lock (turn the wheel in the direction of the slide), and regain control before entering the next corner. Smooth driving and precise steering are key to consistent lap times. Use the full width of the track. To carry the most speed through a corner, follow the racing line: enter wide, clip the inside apex, and exit wide. Creating a larger radius allows for smoother and faster cornering. Fine-tune your racing line as you improve. Once you’re consistently smooth and fast, experiment with slightly tighter corner entry and exit points to reduce the total distance per lap—while still maintaining strong exit speed. This can shave valuable seconds off your lap time. Apply throttle with control. Avoid slamming the accelerator. Instead, squeeze the throttle smoothly to prevent wheel spin and maintain traction. Our Story: From Humble Beginnings to a Thriving Adventure Hub Pro Karts was born in 2006, founded by Nick Fowler, a passionate motorsport enthusiast with a background in speedway racing. What started as a dream to bring the thrill of go-karting to Nelson has since grown into one of New Zealand’s premier outdoor karting experiences. Our track, strategically located next to Nelson Fun Park in Tāhunanui, was among the first purpose-built go-kart tracks in the country. The journey began with a simple mission: to create an exhilarating and safe racing environment for people of all ages. Over the years, Pro Karts has evolved into a multifaceted adventure park, offering not only karting but also laser tag, trampolining, and other entertainment options that draw visitors from across the region and country. Pioneering New Adventures: Laser Tag and Trampolining in Nelson Innovation has always been in our DNA. In 2013, we introduced Nelson’s first-ever laser tag experience—and one of New Zealand’s first outdoor laser tag arenas. Our open-air battlefield brought tactical excitement to life, offering a real-world experience filled with natural cover, bunkers, and open terrain. It quickly became a favourite for birthday parties, corporate events, and thrill-seekers looking for something unique. A Vision of Tranquility: Expanding Oceanside Oasis By late 2024, our vision for Oceanside Oasis had grown. We began work on a purpose-built, expanded spa sanctuary to provide guests with an even more elevated relaxation experience. With enhanced private spa zones, native plant landscaping, ambient lighting, and premium amenities, the new area was designed to be a tranquil escape for couples, families, and friends alike. This development marked a new chapter in our story—showing that adventure and relaxation can exist side by side, right here in Tāhunanui. Our business has always been about people, memories, and supporting the community that supports us. Since day one, we have believed that the best way to make a difference is by opening our doors and sharing our activities with those who need them most. We proudly offer discounted visits to all local schools and work closely with a wide range of charities and community groups, including the Lions Foundation, the Salvation Army, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Tahuna Community Hub, and many others. Every year we donate a large number of vouchers to help families who are struggling, especially around Christmas. We also provide many smaller donations throughout the year. From raffle prizes for fundraisers to support for school events, sports teams, individuals facing sickness or hardship, and a variety of community causes, we always aim to help wherever we can. We support Waimea College through their attendance recognition programme, offering rewards and encouragement for students with high attendance records. This year, we are going a step further by opening the Fun Park for a few hours on Christmas Day exclusively for selected families in need. Our goal is to create positive memories for children and parents who deserve a special moment during a challenging time. We give back in the strongest way we can. Recently we hosted Big Brother Big Sister for what was planned to be a two hour visit, but the group enjoyed themselves so much they stayed for three or four hours. Adults can join in the fun too with our Adult Fun Karts—slightly larger, just as fun, and built so the whole family can race together, and for those who aren’t quite ready for the Pro Karts. These karts also use Racefacer lap timing and race safety kart control, so everyone gets the thrill of racing while staying safe on track. Maximum driver weight: 120kg. TWO SEATER SODI GT2-RK4 SHARE THE THRILL Perfect for younger kids or those not quite ready to drive on their own, our Two Seater Karts let you share the excitement of karting with your child. These karts are powered by Honda 200cc engines, governed to a safe top speed of 25km/h, and fitted with the same Racefacer lap timing and race safety kart control used across our fleet. The driver must be an adult 18 years or older, with a maximum weight of 120kg. Passengers must be at least 3 years old, and generally up to around 8 years old, depending on their size, as the passenger cockpit is compact.
